My small world in the big world

Have you ever taken a walk around your colony and just thought? Stayed quiet the whole time and just observed and noticed how things are? Like how green the leaves look under the light of the lamp post or how there are small insects buzzing around that light like it's the most important thing in the world.
Well that's what I did today. Walked. Just walked.
As I walked I noticed how in just one place I could find all sorts of people. Just one place crammed up with buildings I found a whole new world.
I saw the maids and their children yapping along with no care in the world. i saw those aunty's with the expensive suits and jewellery, dazzling along the sidewalk. I saw the aunty's who had to have their colour of the day straight, they had to wear everything in pink, the shoes, the earrings, the shirts and obviously the shorts. :D
I then saw the sassy diva's who'd just returned home from their party or were going to one wearing one of the shortest clothes possible more like just covering yourself with a napkin!
Then I saw the mean girl wannabes. You know the one that laugh so hard while walking past you to believe that they have the coolest lives and the most socially acceptable too. Yeah right? Who are they kidding?
And then I saw the old people walking, who are sweet and bold enough to go to a child and say "Good morning beta (child) how are you? And then you have the people who're taking a jog or a walk with their earphones in their ears and they have a determined expression on their faces like they are going to achieve something really great.
And me? I don't know where I fit? Maybe I am the wierd girl who thinks too much. Who just has a dazed expression on her face.. Who's thinking just thinking, like she would actually make a difference in the world. :D
And then as I am about to open the door to my house I realise 'this is it, I have a small world in the big world, a mini copy of the larger one, present with me. And when people say that you have to learn to survive in this dog eat dog world well I don't need to learn..beacuse I'm living in the smaller version of it every single day of my life" :3 :D

So again like the post, share it if you think it's worth the share or just email me at niyati.anythingandeverything@gmail.com. I would love to hear from you. :D

"It's not until you lose everything that you are free to do anything."
-Brad Pitt, Fight Club

"No it is not possible" She cried out
"I can't have this disease! I can't even pronounce it!"

Spontaneous Pneumathorax. That's what it was called. A disease related to the lungs. A disease so rare that it only happened to one in a million and she was the one in the the million to have gotten it.

She sat on her hospital bed, in that skimpy hospital gown, she sat dejected. She was just 13 years old, she hadn't lived her life yet and as soon as she got out of the hospital, she couldn't live it either. She was too small to travel the world, too small to live her dreams. She was dependent not independent.

*sigh*

She looked around. Her parents beside her, trying to smile so that she would smile. They were trying to give her some hope. But when she looked at herself, she found there was none left. The pipe coming out of the side of her chest was enough to make her gag and remind her of the operation that was carried out on her. The scary look on her parents faces, the screaming doctor, the light bulb she stared at for hours while the procedure was being carried out.

In an effort to forgot that she silently picked up the T.V. remote from her bedside which had one rose and too many books for her entertainment in this quiet ward. the only space taken by the other hospital bed on which lay a cancer patient. Hope was nowhere to be seen.

Silence enveloped her as she switched on the T.V. and hushed all her thoughts to concentrate on the latest episode of survivor. The irony. It felt like even the T.V. was mocking her.

If you are wondering why I am writing such a sad story or a sad post I just want to say that that girl was me a year back. Never in my life did I want to remember that part of the year but as I started to write posts about things that come into my mind, I realised that this moment in my life was by far the most important. It was because of this disease that I actually started living life and no it's not because I'm going to die any time soon. Not at all! Instead I'm going to live my life completely but nonetheless no matter how cliched it may sound those 2 weeks in the hospital did change the way I looked at everyone and everything.

It was because of that moment did I start this blog and start looking for newer opportunities. That the small things in life started mattering to me. It was because of that experience I am sitting infront of you posting a new random post and smiling while doing so! The optimistic girl writing this would not be here if that incident hadn't happened. And so no matter how common, cliched this message sounds I want to try and inspire you all who're sitting with their heads in their hands! Don't worry! Seriously! If I got of the rare disease and I'm living my life I'm pretty damn sure that you will too get out of everything that's going on your life. If I got out of it you can too!

Why are movies important according to me....

I don't know why I am writing a post on this but I guess I had to share this and ask if I'm not the only one who feels really happy and has a 100 watt smile on their face after watching a romantic comedy.

I just finished watching "Something Borrowed" and I have to tell you in the end when Rachael and Dex walk away into the sunset hand in hand, the smile on my face was the widest it has ever been. : D

I mean when I just watch romantic comedies it just gives me this hope that a happy ending is possible. That yes, I may not get a prince charming who will come riding on his horse and whisk me off my feet and take me away but nonetheless it does give me a hope that a happy ending in my life is possible. :)

That amidst all the difficulties I will face in life, there will be a constant support in my life. I think that's what movies do! For me, when I am not happy with the way things are in life I just sit down and watch a romcom and suddenly everything doesn't seem so bad. It becomes my safe haven amongst my problems. A place where I can just smile and laugh and have no worries. For those 2 or 3 hours I am lost in this world where I am the protagonist and where in the end nothing ever goes wrong. I know it sounds cliched and boring but I guess when you keep on seeing a happy ending you start believing in one too.

We all need hope in our lives and sometimes movies become that strange ray of hope that you always hold on too. Many times I have heard people say that movies affect the mind. It affects the subconscious and is not good for us. But dear readers tell me this whats the harm of watching a romantic comedy? Whats the harm in having a 100 watt smile on your face? Whats the harm in believing there is a happy ending and then struggling for it?

For as long as I can remember whenever I was sad or whenever I was in pain, movies had been a distraction for me and that also in a good way. Whenever I wanted to get distracted from the hurt in my leg and the pain it was causing me, Ace Ventura was always there to distract me from it. To make me laugh and make me forget about the pain.
Whenever I was not in a good mood Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in Just Go With it were there to make me laugh and make me believe that in the end everything turns out just fine. In my lows all thos chick flicks like How to lose a guy in 10 days or breakfast club or Pitch Perfect were there to put a 100 watt smile on my face when no one could. Yes movies are important. They are not only for entertainment for the masses nut are there to give people hope and struggle for happiness.

I am not here implying that all movies are good and they always have positive effects. Movies do have some negative effects but doesn't it also depend on what movie you're watching. i mean obviously if you make a 4 year ols kid watch an action movie he will start behaving violently but at the same time if you make him watch an animated movie or a tom and jerry movie how can he become violent? So you see movies matter just like any other thing in life.

They give you hope, happiness and sometimes strength to fight the wrongs in life.Movies are the common bond between different countries. They have different importance in everyone's life but the thing to observe is they are a part of everyone's life. And an important part too.

How good are movies based on books? Are movies better or books?

Okay, I have read too much on this topic and I've heard people blabbering on about it! Well, I guess it's finally time for me to present my views on this.

First of all. it's based on one question: Do you like to read or watch a movie? this question is the one according to me that defines it all! I mean come on instead of putting your views on someone think. Think that what if someone doesn't like reading books? Then wouldn't the movie be better than the book? Or what if someone likes reading books better than sitting in a theater, with a box full of popcorn in hand and just eating away while Tom Hanks says his dialogues with utmost interest? So you see it's your choice movie or book that matters..

Well that being said What would a person who likes both movies and books do? Then he/she has to either rely on god to give them the better choice or either do "inky pinky ponkey" and decide. So that's where this post comes in. To help you out with a generalized statement. Which is better? The book or the Movie? So i read about it and I thought and had deep conversations and this is the conclusion I have come up with.

The Book. YES THE BOOKS IS ALWAYS BETTER. there are some exceptions to that fact also though. Take Harry Potter Series for example. While some would say that the books are better ( and I wouldn't like to contradict you but hear me out too.) I would like to say it's the movies. Why you ask? Well for the simple reason that I loved to see the spells in action. imagine reading about Malfoy being defeated by Harry and then imagine seeing the spells being used. Isn't the visual better? Another reason is Quidditch!! Quidditch is better when seen than read! and "(The) world Cup scene In Goblet of Fire brings the speed and thrill of the game to life in a way the books don't"said Allan Kronzek, coauthor of the Potter guidebook, The Sorcerer's Companion. For mpre information about this go to http://www.eonline.com/news/210043/five-reasons-the-harry-potter-movies-are-gasp-better-than-the-books.

So you see exceptions are present everywhere in society. Now do you want top know why the books are better than their movie adaptations? Okay. Here's a list to help you out.

The Movie gets Lost In Translation/ Only one interpretation works in the movies.

So when you're reading a book you can have your  own interpretation. There are many ways to interpret a book but there are very very few interpretations of a movie. Infact when a book is read it depends on the reader for interpretation but when you watch a movie it's always the directors interpretation. Just the reason why Stephen King was unhappy with Kubrick’s approach to putting The Shining on the screen.

It's always the way the director imagined it

Much like the first point but still. When you read a book you can envision your own characters. you can imagine how they are, how they look. Well that doesn't happen in the movies! it's always the filmmakers way! Once a filmmaker decides upon settings and characters, we’re limited to seeing the character through their eyes. However million of readers may have different views about the characters appearance. And if the actors or tthe movies don't measure to what you imagined while reading the book, there's grave disappointment. Take The Hunger games for example. Yes the movies were amazing but NOT better than the book!! It was a huge disappointment after the thrill I got from reading the book.

Limited Time

Well it’s not the filmmakers fault in this one. They can’t do anything about the fact that they have to finish the movie in 1.5,2-3 hours. While the writers can go on writing as long as they want. So limited time for storytelling results in cutting of scenes from the book or modification of scenes which is unacceptable by the readers and also sometimes makes the movie confusing if you haven’t read the book. The script writers omit some parts which may be important for the readers. For example the film version of Gone with the Wind, for example, omits the fact that Scarlett O'Hara had two children by her first two husbands, and she really disliked the children.

Detail

Books provide far more details than movies and often you can get a sense of what the main character is really like which is sometimes lost in movies. Also quite often there are more books in a series than films meaning the books not only provide a longer story they always complete the story whereas some film series do a film for the first books and then stop leaving the story unfinished. And sometimes movies are simply worse in comparison to their books, for example the eragon movies was not even half as good as the series of books.

Also, there are cases when you can read a book a 100 times and not get bored while you watch a movie twice and get bored.

All of this being said there are always exceptions to the rule. For example many say and even I believe that the film The Godfather is better than the Mario Puzo novel upon which it is based. To many Godfather fans, film director Francis Ford Coppola significantly improved on the book and took out a lot of material written by Puzo that was not particularly relevant to the main story. Among the other well-known movies that many people consider to be better than the book versions are A Clockwork OrangeOne Flew Over The Cuckoo's NestThe ShiningPsycho and Jaws.

Filmistaan Review

Disclaimer : Spoiler Alerts

This is a post for all the movie lovers in India.
Want a movie which has an insane lot of dialogues from all the old movies and the new like "meine pyaar kiya" or "dabaang"? Want a movie that makes you laugh so hard that your stomach hurts? Want a movie that is satirical yet funny? Well if the answer to all the questions above is
YES then you should definitely watch Fimistaan!

The newly released Filmistaan has become the talk of B-town.. Directed by Nitin Kakkar this film truly captures the relationship between India and Pakistan. Even though the mocie is made on a low budget it is absolutely amazing and a must watch!

The story is about a Mumbai based affable Bollywood buff and wannabe actor Sunny (Sharib Hashmi). He gives multiple auditions but never gets a role and therefore desperate to earn some cash the job of an Assistant Director and goes to Rajasthan to work with an American crew.

While working there one day a tourist group kidnaps him thinking he is an american. He is soon taken to Pakistan and finds himself amidst guns, terrorists and pathani clad guards who decide to keep him as hostage to ask for their demands from the Indian government. The house in which he is kept hostage belongs to a Pakistani, Aftaab ( Inaamulhaq) who earns his living through selling pirated Hindi films, which he brings back as he crosses the border. As soon as both start to talk they realise that they both share a human and cultural bond. the two despite their different nations become close and Aftaab helps him esccape Pakistan and return to India.

The movie shows how cinema can be  the universal panacea for co-existence. How it can bring two different people together in a bond stronger than ever. Altogether an amazing movie and surely a must watch for everyone. It will touch your heart as well as make you hold your stomach and laugh.

I think my favourite dialogue from the movie was when Sunny says "Mujhe kese pata chalega ki yeh Pakistan hai ki India. Shakal same hai, khana same hai, sab kuch toh same hai difference kahan hai" ( "how can I know this is Pakistan or India? The faces are same. the food is the same, everything is same. Where is the difference?")
Touching isn't it? So go and see the movie or just download it and yeah

The Quiet is all that matters

*sigh*

Sometimes in life there are moments when I just want the world  to stop. To give me time to think. To wait for me, to catch up with whatever is going on in my life.
But then as I try to kick back and relax and see the world go by, I see that the world is busy moving on without me while I wait. Just wait.

That's what happened yesterday also. Too frustrated and with too many thoughts in  my mind I decided to have some quiet time, some time alone with just myself. So I sat down outside, on the stairs of the balcony just looking up towards the sky. It wasn't night time yet so there were just four or five stars on the dark background of the sky. But they stood out nonetheless. And just looking at them shining brightly instilled this kind of peace and calm in me like never before. And then the cat came.

The cat that changed it all

While I was sitting just thinking, star gazing, a cat came along and gently placed herself beside me. She was also I noticed with awe, looking up at the sky just thinking. She looked as if she was looking at the stars and just remembering someone like the lines of the song "Stars" by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals tried to portray.

"Stars, they make me wonder where you are,
Stars, upon heaven's boulevard
And if I know you at all, I know you've gone too far
So I can't look at the stars"

Even though I couldn't take a picture of that moment it has been burned to my memory. That moment is something I guess I will never forget.

Why does the quiet matter?

I don't know. I seriously don't. I can't give you a theoretical explanation something like that your brain loves relaxing and when there is peace and quite you feel comfortable or something about your brain cells. I can't do that, but the one thing I can do is tell you that it matters. No matter who sits down outside it will always matter to him/her.

And quiet time doesn't always mean sitting outside on the porch thinking it can be other things also like:

  • Sitting out in the porch and reading with a cup of coffee in hand.
  • Watching a movie. yes watching a movie can constitute alone or quiet time. Because for some people even me it helps me think and refresh my mind and watching a movie like sitting outside and star gazing instills a peace in me like never before. After watching a rom-com I am the happiest I've ever been. And I have a beatific smile on my face that no one can remove. Does this happen with you also?
  • Playing an instrument that you like. For me it's always been the piano. Sitting and playing the piano fpr just 30 minutes is another definition of my quiet time alone.
  • Painting something. Just sit outside with your drawing pad all inspired ready for your quiet time and see how amazing your artwork turns out.

So today there is one thing that me and that cat can urge you to do and that is take some time off from your busy life.I promise you won't regret it, because in the end as I realized you will also realize that it's the quiet that matters.

What is this blog all about?

Well, firstly I would like to thank all those people for having the patience to wait for my first post. I know I released the blog before i posted anything but to all those who did check it out at that time thank you so much! It meant a lot to me. Infact, it gave me the strength to actually write my first post.

That being said, many people asked me what is this blog all about? I mean what is anything and everything? And why did I name it that way? Well so my first post will be about this.

So, this is the blog for people whose mind keeps wandering off to different places and for the people who love randomness. This is the place to take that randomness out and just write it down. It is for you to feel you belong. This is for the people who are always confused about what they are exceptionally good at but realise that they are good at a lot of things but not exceptionally good in one particular thing. It's for the wierdos, the bookworms, the nerds, the geeks, the artists, the musicians, the movie- worms (yes I invented that word) :P, the inventors, the rom-com fanatics, the dreamers, the believers in happy endings, the crazy people out there just wanting a platform to show themselves. A platform that doesn't demand for you to be perfect , it doesn’t demand anything. This blog is for anyone and everyone about anything and everything. :D Because there is a crazy side to everyone even me ;) and this is that blog to take it all out. Unleash your craziness with all force.

Here you can share your thoughts and views. You can comment freely and no one will say you’re not perfect because that is the aim of this blog: To not be PERFECT! To know the things that everyone know but do the same things in our own style. This blog is the safe haven of those lost just because they don’t have a particular talent but have many interests. This is for you to feel special. This is for you to feel belonged because you could never find your niche, a particular niche in this world full of cliques. It is for those who belong everywhere but are not accepted anywhere.

Well this is that place to feel accepted because like you even I never belonged in a particular place/ niche. I belong in every group. I can paint, write, play the keyboard, be crazy, study, act and I love psychology. I could do so much and I had a lot of interests but I wasn’t perfect in any one of them I was just good enough and so I belonged in all these groups but I could never stay in one and so this blog is for the people like me who know a lot and have a lot of interests but want a place, a safe haven to talk to people similar to them. To not feel left out and to take a sigh of relief by knowing that there are people like you out there.

This blog is to interact , to share, to learn because I know there may be a lot of perfects out there but more than them WE are there ready to take the world by force. To influence the world to know, to think, to believe and to have faith. And that is why I present to you the “Anything and Everything” blog for “Anyone and Everyone” out there just wanting a place to belong. :D

So for all those wanting to share their views just send me whatever videos, writing, painting anything on niyati.anythingandeveryhting@gmail.com

And please comment below. Your views, your thoughts are necessary to me and help me and encourage me to write more posts. :D And if you shoot me a mail anytime I will personally answer each and every one of them so please please please do.
